| Port-a-Cut Installation Instructions - US MODEL - Australian voltage differs Required Hand Tools – 1) A hammer and phillips head screwdriver may be helpful in starting and tightening the screw eyes utilized for mounting Electrical Connection – 1) 120 volt outlet (motor draws approximately 6 amps at full load) Installation – 1) Find a suitable working area with access to 120vac power 2) Mount the motor and controller on a vertical surface (corner preferably) offering sufficient support for the length of line desired (up to 80' or so pulley to pulley). Dimple the surface of the post and screw the eye bolts into these spots on the post until tight. 3) Cross the working area and mount the smaller pulley at similar height via the eye bolt supplied 4) Line is shipped threaded through the small pulley - drape the remaining end over the arbor of the drive pulley (not the drive area itself, this will allow added line tension when ready to work) and bring the ends together at the flag 5) Attach to the flag and adjust tension to keep the flag waist high while working 6) Pull the line over the drive pulley (that extra little bit of tension) and plug in the motor 7) Test the flag for freedom of movement in both directions Operation – We would like to begin by stating the training and maintaining of a cutting horse is best accomplished with cattle. We make no claims to the contrary. There are times, however, that cattle are unavailable, unreliable, or simply too expensive for regular practice. Port-a-Cut provides a predictable and controlled form of exercise that will not replace the cow but can supplement a given program where contact frequency with cattle is less than optimal. Please Note: Certain assumptions have been made in developing and marketing the Port-a-Cut – 1) User is familiar with Cutting as a sport 2) User has been a participant in formal competition or at least trained in a formal atmosphere on either live cattle or professionally supervised mechanical alternative 3) User understands the need for proper footing, environment, and safety precautions to protect both horse and rider 4) Horse and rider are in good physical condition and able to undertake a training and exercise program that includes the Port-a-Cut Start - Once your Port-a-Cut is in place, have the operator sweep the flag back and forth the full length of the work area to assure clear operation and good visibility. This will also allow the operator to become familiar with performance of the motor and associated control unit (speed, direction change, etc.). The sound created by the motor unit and pulley combination can be disconcerting to some animals and great care should be taken as horse and rider approach the flag until a reasonable level of comfort is achieved. You are now ready to cut. Cool Down - If you are using the Port-a-Cut for intense training, please allow at least 2 - 3 minutes of cool down for the motor between runs and 7 - 10 minutes between horses. This will measurably prolong the life of your unit. Please Note: We at Win-D-Acres are not professional Cutting Horse trainers. We are active participants in the sport and handle the upkeep of our own animals, but the formula for success with a Cutting Horse is up to the user. The Port-a-Cut purchaser is entirely responsible for the content of a given work out. Much good can be had from the consistency Port-a-Cut provides, but there can be drawbacks and each horse owner should have at least an informal plan to incorporate a mechanical training device of any type into a broader program that includes daily exercise of some nature and professional oversight of animal and rider progress. Warranty/Guarantee - We want our users to be happy, and with that in mind Win-D-Acres offers full and complete refund of purchase price within 15 days of receipt if not satisfied with performance of the product. As Port-a-Cut is a motor driven device, we add another 15 days of coverage (30 total) for any mechanical issues with the equipment (I don't build the pieces-parts, I just adapt them). Call right away if there are issues or concerns and we will proceed with either refund or replacement - your choice. Good Luck and Happy Cutting… Legal Disclaimer - There are inherent dangers associated with riding a horse. Most states have equine liability legislation emphasizing those dangers. Fitness of both horse and rider to utilize the Port-a-Cut is entirely the responsibility of the purchaser. Further, damage or injury (to horse or rider) as a result of proper or improper installation, application or operation of the Port-a-Cut is once again entirely the responsibility of the purchaser. Sadly we have to include these kinds of common sense notes to cover our behinds. |
